These are both my experiences as a new dad at 40 (a solid 10-15 years behind most of my peers) and as an intentional platonic partnered parent. I may sprinkle in the experiences of other dads, books, and stuff I find helpful in this, my biggest adventure yet.

After COVID-19 postponed my planned thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail as the first step of my Trek Dirty to Me project, I began baking bread and frying donuts in my apartment, funded only by donations from friends and family. That curbside bake sale in front of my apartment building quickly grew, and I was no longer able to meet demand. So I started a Kickstarter campaign to purchase a food truck and we raised over $44,000, far surpassing our original goal of $35,000. So this is the Bread project - now the Books Bourbon & Bacon Bread food truck.

2019-2025

The complete thru-hiking of the Triple Crown of American hikes - the three major American Scenic Trails: The Appalachian Trail (AT), the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) and the Continental Divide Trail (CDT), while interviewing folks along the way (particularly past, present and future thru-hikers, restaurant and bar owners, food and beverage producers and writers) and featuring them on my “Trek Dirty to Me” blog and podcast.
