Trek Dirty to Me: 54 days until I hike the AppTrail, and I want to know who's coming with me!?!?!? (Indy Edition)

February 07, 2020 by AJ Feeney-Ruiz in Appalachian Trail, Trek Dirty to Me, Projects

Who’s coming with me? Whooooooooo’s coming with me? Help me, help you!

Indianapolis friends, have you been yearning to get out there and hike the great outdoors with me? Are modern inconveniences like “life” keeping you from joining for a few of my Appalachian Trail thru-hike’s 2,200 miles between Springer Mountain, Georgia and Mt. Katahdin, Maine? Well, you are in luck!

Thanks to the lovely crowd-sourcing within the AllTrails app, I have strung together what equates to about a week of hiking (distance…not elevation…because…well you know) the surprisingly many interesting trails of Indianapolis. I will be hiking pretty much daily during the month of March before I head for Atlanta, Georgia on the 28th or 29th.

Depending on your interest and your availability (let me know in the comments here or on social media or by emailing me here), we can hike any of the trails listed below! There are approximately 112 total miles to play with all over Indianapolis. You don’t have to join me in carrying a fully-loaded backpack, but don’t forget water. All the trails are rated easy or moderate. And perhaps the bug will hit you and inspire you to join me for a wee bit on my thru-hike. At the very least, it is an amazing opportunity to discover up to 112 miles of trail ways in our beautiful city!

Trek Indy!

Canal Walk = 2.9 miles

Eagle Creek Trail Loop = 3.9 miles

Eagle Creek Red Trail Short Loop = 4.1

Lawrence Creek Trail = 4.5 miles

Eagle’s Crest Trail = 4.8 miles

Eagle Creek Internal Loop = 5.8 miles

Eagle Creek Color Combo Loop = 6.2 miles

Ft. Benjamin Harrison MTB Loop = 6.3 miles

Eagle Creek Fowl Sanctuary South Overlook Trail = 6.4 miles

Pennsy Trail: Cumberland = 6.6 miles

Eagle Creek Green Trail = 6.8 miles

Cultural Trail = 8 miles

Central Canal Towpath = 10.5 miles

Fall Creek Greenway = 17.6 miles

Monon Trail = 18.8 miles

= approximately 112 miles (a week of my anticipated miles hiking the AT)

So who’s coming with me?!?!?

Well, I certainly wasn’t expecting a global pandemic to shut down the world right before I was to set off on my Trek Dirty to Me project and my years-long planned 2,200 mile trek of the Appalachian Trail. But it did, and I could not have been luckier. What a ride these last three months have been!
